EDN: IJTEZT

Abstract

Modern sports are gradually becoming a business sector. Olympic Games, tournaments and championships are not just sporting events and spectacular shows, they are part of a business, to some extent. Sports management companies' staff members and volunteers who work there are engaged in solving such problems as arranging the sportsmen and their luggage transportation and hotel accommodation and servicing, premises leasing, stadiums checks to make them ready for use, making contacts with the media, state bodies and sponsors' representatives, ticket sales, placing the show advertisements, and other problems. The demand for qualified sports managers now is extremely high. The Russian universities began training the sports managers not long ago. The article author speaks about the professional competences a sports manager should have, about the Russian and international sports manager training best practices and about the direct correlation between the quality of managers' training and the sports teams' competitiveness level.
